The sun's rays warmed the earth, calling for spring. A warm breeze blew through the playground, carrying the laughter of the kids who ran after one another. Beneath an old tree sat a young man. His eyes were focused on the kids, and a soft smile appeared on his lips. He was no predator, at least not in the way of kidnapping a child. He was just enjoying a bitter-sweet moment.
Cameron was only twenty-two, but he could tell stories for days. This is one of those stories that hid deep in his heart. A sigh escaped past his lips, and he swept a hand through his dark brown hair, pushing the bang that had fallen back into their place. It was normal for Cam to be found alone. It wasn't that he didn't have friends. Hell, a flash of his charming smile and he could get whatever he wanted. He just liked the peace that came with being alone. His fingers began to beat the bench he sat at before moving his gaze to stare at a patch of flowers.
There was only one reason Cameron ever really came to the playground, and that was to see his baby girl. It had to have been four or five years since he had last seen her, but still, he hoped they would come back.

Chelsea wasn't sure what she was more excited about- having a week's vacation and therefore spending every waking moment with her two adorable children, or that spring is coming upon them. Either way, she was having another wonderful day. The two small children were busy eating their peanut butter sandwiches while she read what she could of her book. But it wasn't long before they were finished and darting off to the trash can to throw away their trash.
"Addie, watch out for your little brother!" She called. The smaller boy was prone to being her shadow. And half the time, she wasn't looking out for him and mowed the poor boy over. It almost killed Chelsea how much she looked like her father. 'You'd think she wasn't even mine.' She thought, tucking her book away into her bag. She tossed it over her shoulder, rising from the bench to follow after the two kids. Mikey took no time trying to climb the wrong way up the slide while his sister busied herself with finishing her mountain of sand, sticks and leaves.
'Mommy, I'm going look for flowers!' The dark haired girl called as her mother took a seat on the swings to watch them. She watched her baby toddle off to the nearest patch of flowers, plucking them up carefully.

A brown headed girl popped into Cameron's view as she ran straight to the middle of the path of flowers he was staring at. His eyebrow rose slightly as his eyes traced over the little girl's facial features. His hand reached to fill the bump of his wallet in his jeans. It held the only picture he had of Adrienne, and the little girl who stood a few feet away from him was the older version of his picture, not to mention, alive. Cameron's eyes began to look around the playground and by the swings, he found exactly who he was looking for. She was still as beautiful as the first day he had met her. A warm smile began on his lips, but then he remembered the last four years.
"Chelsea? Chelsea!" He shouted. Jumping from his seat, his eyes switched between Adrienne and Chelsea. Then, he caught a glimpse of the little boy. Cameron's smile completely faded away. Was that Chelsea's boy? He didn't look much younger than Adrienne. 'So, she ran off to be with someone else..?' But the hurt of that thought was quickly erased as the anger in him began to race through his veins. As he got closer to Chelsea, he did his best to act calm, but he wasn't sure how long it would last. In the calmest voice he could manage he asked, "Where the hell have you been?"

Chelsea couldn't deny the fact that her heart dropped when she heard her name being called. She wouldn't forget his voice in a million years. She glanced over slowly at him, then back at their daughter picking her flowers. She wasn't in the mood to argue with him. Not today. Everything was so happy today. Of all the times to run into Cameron.
Mikey came back, tugging on the hem of her dress. He was like his sister; he looked nothing like her. But unlike Adrienne, Mikey had her thick English accent. And his father's stutter. Like the bleach blonde hair wasn't enough of a reminder. 'M-mommy.' He complained. 'Help.' She gave him a gentle smile and picked him up, carrying him to the steps so he could climb up. She climbed up behind him, looking down at Cameron. "I'll tell you everything you want to know over dinner. You aren't going to upset the kids just because you're angry." She told him, her blue eyes watching her daughter come up to investigate the man standing there.

Cameron began to bite on the inside of his cheek. He knew they couldn't argue, but he wanted to yell, scream, cuss. He wanted to tear the playground to shreds, but he held it in. "Over dinner? And where do you plan on having this dinner? Because a restaurant isn't going to work and you've managed to keep yourself invisible to me. I'm not leaving!" He huffed with frustration. His emotions were flipping from pulling her into his arms and ripping the swing to scrap metal. "I'm not leaving until we talk." Cameron had a long speech, but he held it in and his gaze away from Chelsea.

"Then don't leave. It'll make taking you home for dinner so much easier." She said with a shrug. She could tell his uneasiness was starting to rub off of the children. They were getting antsy and shy, which was nothing like the normally bubbly children they were ordinarily. She climbed back down the slide steps, and gathered her book sack and the kids'. She knelt down in the sand for a moment to put each of their bags on their backs, then stood up to dust off her dress. She picked up Mikey, holding him close to her. "So are you coming or not?" She didn't think Adrienne was going to let him carry her, so she hoisted her up to her other hip, groaning a bit. "No more peanut butter for either of you. You weigh a ton each."

His eyes traced over Chelsea's figure as he thought about her question. "What surprises am I going to see at your house?" He asked. Cameron shoved his hands into his pockets and kicked at the ground a bit. "Which way are we headed?" He moved a tad closer, but still tried to keep his eyes off Chelsea. The girl was his high school sweet heart and nightmare at the same time. No doubt, he was the same to her. Their relationship was tricky and usually involved trying to get the upper hand, but they're were times that looked like they could be in a movie. Cameron's favorite memories were of when they went to the park with a basket full of Chelsea's food, but Cameron always managed to slip in something that was guaranteed to taste good, and then, they would just sit there, talking about anything and everything. He tried to keep a smile from spreading to his face, but he was never any good at hiding what he was feeling around her. Clearing his throat, he broke the silence and tried to think of something to talk about so his mind wouldn't wonder. "How have you been..?"

Chelsea didn't want to look at him anymore than he wanted to look at her. He may not be as alluring as she was, but he was certainly as handsome as she remembered. If not more handsome. It made her sick. If he kept looking better as the years passed, how was she supposed to keep away from him? "Me? Oh, I've been busy. Working a full time job, and chasing after two kids under the age of five is enough to keep you on your toes." She looked down at Mikey who was sucking his thumb for all he was worth and watching Cameron like, well, a wolf. No pun intended. "And you? Time has done you well. You're like your father. I don't think either of you have aged a bit."

His headed nodded, and her words went through his ears, but he had to keep them let going till they were out of his mind. He wish it was dinner already. Cameron had been waiting a long time for this and all he could do was keep waiting. "Just working a job and looking through every street for a girl who seemingly vanished." He gave a glance her way and a small smirk appeared. "You see..." but he stopped and changed what he was going to say, "You haven't changed a bit, not even with two kids. You're still the gorgeous girl I met years ago." The inside of his cheek was back to being chewed on by his teeth and his eyes never stayed on the same object. "So, you have been well? No trouble..?" His voice dropped into a more caring tone, but the harshness still hadn't disappeared. It wasn't enough to just say Cameron loved the girl who was walking beside him, there was much more to it than that. Maybe it was because of what she was, but he always wanted to believe it was more than that. Or at least, he used to.. nowadays he wasn't as sure.

She honestly wished she could say that smirk and the compliments meant nothing to her, but her heart dropped just the same. She knew he was just going to slip through her fingers again. It's always how their story went. "At least neither of them were more than one baby. I couldn't handle carrying around three kids every day.." She trailed off, realizing just how heavy Mikey had gotten. And sure enough, he was sound asleep with his head on her shoulder. She hoisted him up a bit, but she didn't dare ask Cameron for help. This wasn't his kid. And his kid might not even let him carry her. Anyone could feel the tension between the two. "I don't have time to get into trouble, Cameron." She walked up the short walk to her small house, carefully putting both the kids on the porch swing so she could fish out her house key. She opened the door, then scooped Mikey into her arms, carrying him upstairs to his room.

The neighborhood was quiet, not too many people were on the streets. But they must have all been out enjoying their day. At Chelsea's question, his eyes quickly darted her way before following after her. "When do I ever cause trouble?" Cam watched as she went back and forth from the kids and the door. His eyes stopped o Adrienne, realizing just how much she looked like him. But just by watching her for those couple minutes, he knew Adrienne was like Chelsea. Chelsea slipped into the house with Mikey and Cameron waited for Adrienne to get inside before stepping in and closing the door. He waited next to the front door, just standing there. "Chelsea, I don't want to fight either.. I've kept calm.. i just want answers" he made sure to speak loud enough for her to him.

Chelsea tucked the small boy into his bed, leaning down to give him a gentle kiss on the forehead. She made her way back downstairs, making sure Adrienne was busy playing with something before she nodded to the kitchen. She had to start cooking dinner, and she saw no point in standing around just talking. "If you want answers, then I suppose you should start answering questions." She pulled her hair back into a pony tail, then crossed the kitchen to wash her hands. She grabbed the package of chicken from the sink, and carried it to the cutting board to start cutting it apart. But she refused to look at Cameron. She was starting to get irritated. And she knew that her eyes were probably glowing nearly white. She didn't want to do this. Not today, not ever. She'd hoped she'd never catch up with him again. She knew her answers weren't good enough for him.

Cameron followed after her, knowing if she exploded he would explode. The town might just explode once they got into this conversation. "Well, how about we start with why you just left with Adrienne?" He couldn't help the growl that escaped at the end of his sentence. She had stay hidden for four years. She had to have known that his anger was just boiling inside of him, waiting for the day. After cracking his knuckles, he shoved his hands into his pockets and leaned against a counter.

Chelsea chewed on her lip, slowly cutting her chicken into bits. She was trying her hardest to keep calm. "Because I was pregnant and I wasn't going to make you raise a child that wasn't yours. And we would have looked like a couple of fools with a ten month old and a new born. So I guess in a way I was saving your reputation." She walked back to the sink to wash her hands, sure he was going to start screaming or something. At least the kids probably wouldn't be able to hear them if they got into an argument. "Fetch me the flour out of the pantry, would you?" She asked, slowly drying off her hands.

Cameron mauled over her response as he went to get the flour. He thought it was quite ridiculous, but he'd never say that to her. He could never understand why she didn't believe him when he said he'd go to the moon and back for her. With a big huff, he grabbed the flour and left the pantry. It went back and forth in his hands as he made his way over to Chels. "How'd you end up pregnant again?" Handing over the flour, Cameron slightly regretted asking the question, but there wouldn't be a better way to phrase it and he figured this was the calm before the storm. [/block]
